My Projects
This is an overview of some of the projects I've worked on as a educational contractor and an instructional designer
Projects at Utah Valley University
I've consulted with several professors and built many courses with the SMEs that align with the program and course objectives. Some of the work you'll see sampled in the picture below includes:
-
A Storyline made to help students understand characteristics of autism
-
A Canvas page, with tabs showing students how to create different interactives for assignments in a course
-
An award winning spreadsheet, complete with fun coding for departments to organize their program objectives and professors can align those with their courses
-
A couple of H5P presentations (just a few of many) showing online students course material in a more interactive way.
-
Programs used at UVU: Articulate, Adobe Illustrator, H5P, Pressbooks, StoryMaps, Qualtrics, etc.
-
Implemented WCAG 2.1 guidelines to ensure course materials were accessible to all learners, including those with disabilities.
-
Conducted student surveys to gather feedback on the ease of navigation and overall user experience, adjusting processes and templates used based on feedback
-
Used tools to check for accessibility, including Canvas' checker and Yuja Panorama to validate content readability and compatibility with screen readers.
-
Worked closely with university professors (SMEs) to align course content with program objectives and ensure the accuracy of materials.

Other Projects and Contracts
Daktronics Event Production Curriculum
I developed a one-semester course for high school students for Daktronics. The goal of the course was to help students become proficient in using Daktronics scoreboards & video production equipment at their school's athletic events and assemblies.
-
Advised the design team on best practices for creating an intuitive and student-friendly user interface, ensuring the curriculum was engaging and accessible to high school students.
-
Leveraged my experience as a high school teacher to collaborate with industry professionals at Daktronics, helping to align the curriculum with pedagogical best practices and ensuring it resonated with students.
-
Guided the project using the ADDIE model, particularly focusing on the "Analyze" and "Design" phases to ensure the curriculum was structured around clear learning objectives and met educational standards.
-
Applied principles of adult learning theory and high school pedagogy to help shape content that was both challenging and accessible to students, ensuring that it supported their development of key skills.
-
Scope & Sequence of the Curriculum
-
Objectives and Course Goals aligned with curriculum
-
40 Lesson Plans with quizzes, activities, slideshows, worksheets, tutorials and answer keys

Articulate Rise 360: Course on How to Sell Teacher Resources Online
I developed this course as I was researching the ins-and-outs of publishing and selling some of my teacher resources on TPT. I found that there are a lot of steps and rules to getting resources ready to sell. This course, created with Articulate Rise 360, is geared towards to teachers.
The course includes a Learner Workbook created using Canva.

-
Developed interactive elements within Rise 360 to engage users while ensuring all content met WCAG 2.1 standards for accessibility.
-
Created a responsive design that optimized user experience across various devices, from desktops to mobile phones.
-
Collaborated with experienced sellers on Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT) to gather insights and ensure the course content addressed practical needs.
-
Followed the ADDIE model to guide the course creation process, including needs assessment, content design, and iterative evaluation.
Master’s Project: Combating Misinformation on Social Media for College Students
For my master’s in Instructional Design and Educational Technology, I tackled the issue of college students encountering and sharing misinformation on social media. I conducted research on the cognitive factors influencing this behavior and gathered data through surveys and focus groups to pinpoint gaps in media literacy.
Using adult learning theories, I designed and coded an HTML-based course prototype that featured interactive modules and real-world scenarios to enhance critical thinking.

Research and Data Collection:
-
Conducted comprehensive research into the cognitive and behavioral factors that contribute to the spread of misinformation among adult learners, particularly college students.
-
Read previous research and studies and analyzed the data to identify key gaps in students' media literacy and critical thinking, which informed the development of targeted educational interventions.
Prototype Development:
-
Designed a prototype course using principles of adult learning theory, focusing on engaging and practical strategies to help students recognize, evaluate, and challenge misinformation.
-
The course included interactive modules, real-world scenarios, and assessments that encouraged students to apply critical thinking skills in evaluating social media content.
Testing and Feedback:
-
Piloted the course with a group of college students, collecting both quantitative and qualitative feedback to assess its effectiveness.
-
Monitored student engagement and learning outcomes, using this data to identify areas for improvement.
Iterative Refinement:
-
Based on the feedback, I made iterative adjustments to the course content, including refining the scenarios, enhancing the interactivity, and adding additional resources for deeper learning.
Articulate RISE 360: Course on Financial Planning
I developed this course leveraging my expertise as a certified financial literacy educator. By applying adult learning theories, I tailored complex financial concepts to be accessible and engaging for young adults. The course included interactive tools and a comprehensive user guide designed to help participants critically analyze their financial habits and set personal goals. Using the ADDIE model, I ensured a systematic approach to course design, with a focus on user feedback and continuous improvement.
Created with Rise 360 Articulate, this course includes a slide deck for ILT and a Facilitator Guidebook. There is also a Participant or Learner Guidebook that includes activities and goes along with both the slide deck and the Articulate course.

Weebly: Online Course for Government
This course was created using a free website builder called Weebly. It is designed as a self-paced public course to teach 12th grade students about the United States Government. It has been used by 50+ students.
Designed the course structure to be intuitive, minimizing cognitive load and enhancing the overall learning experience.
Canvas Courses
With over a decade of experience as a social studies teacher, I've designed and taught more than 20 courses, using sites like Weebly and Wix initially but mostly using Canvas.
At UVU, I expanded my expertise by working as an instructional designer, where I designed and advised on over 30 different courses across various disciplines.
Of all the software I've used, Canvas stands out as one of the most well-used and effective. I've created Canvas courses, both for my own classes and for professors at UVU. This particular course was designed for 7th graders in Utah to fulfill their social studies credit and has been taken by over 200 students. The course is self-paced and is part of the 10+ online courses I’ve developed for high school students using Canvas, ensuring accessibility and a seamless learning experience.
